PDI'S 2006 PETERBILT 379 "SAVE ME THE MONEY" CLEANED UP THE AWARDS AT THE PRIDE AND POLISH IN LAS VEGAS, JUNE 14-16
Performance Diesel Inc. (PDI) of St. George, Utah, received five awards at the recent Great West Truck Show (GWTS) Pride and Polish competition with their custom blue 2006 Peterbilt 379. The GWTS 2012 Awards included: Best Paint, Best Engine, Best of Show, First Place Working Class, and Second Place Interior.

PDI rebuilt the award winning truck in 2010, and although it has hundreds of hours in custom work and modifications, it is used as a working truck. “We built the truck and put a lot of time into it, but we aren’t afraid to use it,” said Jed Howard, from PDI. You can see the truck on the road transporting PDI goods as well as other custom trucks. “People love the truck!” Howard said. “They make me pull the hood so they can see it. They can’t believe we are driving it.”
PDI rebuilt and customized the blue Peterbilt in-house from the ground – up. The truck’s engine has numerous PDI products including a PDI ecm upgrade, Big Boss Nozzle Ring Turbo, exhaust manifold, Stage 1 cam, clutch, intercooler, and radiator. The truck sports a Jones Performance hood and front fenders; a Twelve Gauge visor, steps, drop panels, and airbags; dual Fox shocks; a solid floor inside, a jet hot-coated turbo and manifold, 8 inch Lincoln pipes, custom hydraulic tank inside the frame rails in the rear, smoothed out fiberglass, and it’s chromed out using materials from 4 State Trucks.
“We chromed everything under the hood that could be chromed,” Howard said. “There is a lot of detail work in the truck. You really have to slow down and look at it closely to see everything that was done.” The only component of the truck rebuild not finished in-house by PDI was the custom airbrush that was completed by a local artist.
Before the rebuild, the truck was rated at 690-700 horsepower with a Stage 1 ECM tune and the remainder of the truck being factory. Now the blue 2006 Peterbilt is rated at 830 horsepower at the rear wheels working every day. Not only have the upgrades made it a powerhouse of a work truck it is also very efficient in terms of fuel economy.
In 2012, the truck also won the Working Bobtail First Time Show First Place at the Mid America Truck Show in Louisville, Ky. The truck was shown by Patrick Matte. Stop by and visit PDI and see the truck for yourself!
